Graceful Garden with Stampin’ Blends

I am continuing to post cards made with sets from the Annual Catalog. This lovely flower is from the set Graceful Garden and just screams to be colored with our alcohol markers. I actually made these cards last November and they were my fist attempts at using the new Stampin’ Blends. There is definitely a learning curve to alcohol markers (any brand) and I have a few tips below.

Tips for using our Stampin’ Blends:

  • Use Memento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp the image you are going to color, and make sure the ink is completely dry before coloring. (You cannot use the Archival inks.)
  • Alcohol markers bleed! Do not color all the way up to the edge of your image. Stop just a bit before and let the color bleed up to the line (and not over!) Go back with another layer of color if needed, but remember as you go over the same area it will become more saturated and bleed even more.
  • Practice with each color. I have found that some colors will bleed more than others. Knowing how each color reacts will help you have a successful coloring experience.
  • Even blending takes practice and patience. My blending on this card is far from perfect but I will keep trying!
  • There are two colors in each set, a light and a dark. To get one more shade use the Color Lifter in the lighter area.

My blending is far from perfect on these two cards but I am still pretty happy with the results. I will keep practicing and getting better! As these were my first attempts, the color did bleed over the outside line of the image. My solution for that was to add a light Smoky Slate outline to the image. This blended away some of the color that bled over and gave it a more uniform look around the edges. Then I fussy cut the image so I could add the strip of Designer Series Paper behind it.
