Here is my card:

Sure Do Love you and Heart Happiness by Stampin' Up! | Valentine's Day card ideas | handmade cards | rubber stamping | Alcohol Markers | The Way We Stamp | Julie DeGuia

Truth be told, I almost bailed on the blog hop this month. It has been a rough couple weeks in our house and I wasn’t sure I’d have something ready in time. My daughter dislocated and fractured her finger last week and has been sick twice since then. She started to get better last weekend and then went down again. The diagnosis this time is bronchitis. Hoping she kicks it for good this weekend and can get back to her regular schedule of school, strength training and softball practices. Life is so much easier with routines!

Painted with Love Suite

While not the only sets to make Valentine’s Day cards with, I knew I wanted to use products from the Painted with Love suite and the Heart Happiness stamp set. I chose colors from the strip of Painted with Love Specialty Designer Series Paper to color the flowers, substituting Pink Pirouette for Powder Pink because I was using the Stampin’ Blends.

  • Tip – The colors used in each Designer Series Paper are listed in two places: under the description of the paper in the catalog, and on the cardboard insert that comes with the paper pack.

CASE That Card!

I was also struggling to come up with a design for my card, and went through several ideas before settling on this arrangement. I actually ended up starting fresh and CASEing a card I made just a couple days ago. Sometimes this is a good way to get positive results in your crafting – use an idea that you already know works! Here is a comparison of the two cards.

As you can see, the birthday card is a very simple design. I took a solid color background and stamped a design with the same ink color. This provides an even, monochromatic backdrop for the rest of the card. Then I chose a strip of Designer Series Paper cut to 2″ so that it fits in the Triple Banner Punch. The second strip of Whisper White cardstock is cut to 1 1/2″ and fits in the middle width of the punch. The doily on the heart card mimics the scallops on the birthday card, and both cards have the sentiment going across the main focal point.

  • Tip – Make your own monochromatic DSP by stamping on cardstock with the same color ink.

Card-Making made Easy!

I love that I was able to quickly put this card together by following my own sketch. And it doesn’t have to be a card in your stash. If you do a quick search on Pinterest or browse your favorite crafty Facebook group, there is sure to be a design that catches your eye. Then you can add your own flair and finishing touches.Simple Sketch | The Way We Stamp | Julie DeGuia | Handmade Cards

I hope you enjoyed my card(s) today and will use some of the tips in your own card making. If you use my design to make a card, be sure to let me know how it turned out!
