Hello Baby for GDP123

Today I have a New Baby Card for the Global Design Project theme challenge which is New Beginnings. After focusing on the new Occasions Catalog stamps for the past couple months I decided to revisit the super cute Moon Baby stamp set from the Annual Catalog.

Here is my card:

And here is the banner that inspired my card:

I love the softness of the Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper, especially the Powder Pink color. It made a great background for my sweet little baby image. I added a stronger accent color with the Berry Burst mats around the focal panel and DSP panel, as well as the paper-pieced umbrella. Paper-Piercing is a fun alternative to coloring in an image. While it doesn’t work on all stamped images, it turned out cute on the umbrella here.

How to do Paper-Piercing

  1. Stamp your image on a piece of solid color cardstock.
  2. Select the Designer Series Paper you want to use and stamp the image again.
  3. Use Paper Snips to carefully cut on the outline of the image.
  4. Optional – Using a marker of the same color ink you stamped the image with, color the cut edges so that the cardstock color is not showing.
  5. Adhere the cutout image to the stamped image.

I used our Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers to color the rest of the baby and the inside of the card. I will admit there is a bit of a learning curve to using these. Not only in figuring out the blending, but there are some colors that bleed more than others! I had to redo the inside of the card because my Crumb Cake markers went too far outside the lines for my liking!

Tip: Do not color all the way up to the outside image line. Stop just a touch away and the ink will bleed and fill in to the edge.

If you are not ready to invest in Stampin’ Blends, our Watercolor Pencils are a great value. I used them on the same baby image for this card and loved the results. Click the photo to go to my blog post where I have tips on how to use them.
