Quick and Easy Christmas Cards for GDP118

The Global Design Project sketch challenge was exactly what I needed to see Monday morning. It inspired me to make some quick and easy Christmas Cards this week. I have been waiting to find a good design for the Foil Snowflakes and this sketch was it.

Here is my card:

And here is the banner that inspired my card:

This striped pattern is my favorite design from the Be Merry Designer Series Paper pack and it worked perfectly for the sketch. A coordinating strip of paper cut to 1 3/4″ wide is placed one inch from the left edge. This provides a nice contrast behind the main focal point. I used a sentiment from Snowflake Sentiments and stamped it with Cherry Cobbler ink on a circle cut with a die from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Then I mounted that on a scalloped circle cut with a die from the Layering Circles Framelits, also in Cherry Cobbler.

I used Whisper White Thick Cardstock for most of the card bases. This was mainly because I didn’t have enough Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green Cardstock on hand.  For these I used a mat behind the DSP, but on the few I made with a colored cardstock base I adhered the DSP directly to the card base. I used the Multipurpose Glue to adhere everything for these cards – it is quick, and easy to make small adjustments to get the spacing right on each layer.

The Foil Snowflake is my favorite part of each card. It adds such an elegant touch to a simple design. Since I am mailing these cards I didn’t want to add ribbon for the bow element of the sketch, but I was able to add the bow as a stamped image below the sentiment. This bow is from the set Santa’s Sleigh.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you will check out the awesome inspiration by the Design Team at the Global Design Project, as well as all the other entries!
