This month I made two cards highlighting the cute black cat from the Spooky Night Designer Series Paper. Here is my first card:

Halloween Card Ideas | Pick a Pumpkin by Stampin' Up! with Spooky Night Designer Series Paper | Labeler Alphabet | Rubber Stamping | Handmade Cards | The Way We Stamp | Julie DeGuia

I love that Stampin’ Up! started creating images on their DSP that can be cut out with a punch or die. I combined the punched out cat with images from the Pick a Pumpkin set, and greenery cut with the Bouquet Bunch Framelits dies. The colors I used for the pumpkins are Berry Burst and Pumpkin Pie, which are stamped on both its matching color cardstock as well as Whisper White.

I know the little dots left by the Big Shot are not always desirable, and sometimes I will try to flatten them out. However, on this card I have a little bit of a polka dot theme going on and thought the raised dots tied into that theme. I finished the card with a short sentiment made with the Labeler Alphabet stamp set. This is definitely not a spooky card, but a great card for a friend who you would like to send a note to around pumpkin season!

Tip: Use a bone folder to press out the dots left by the Big Shot on cardstock if you don’t want them to show.

My next card uses the popular Painted Harvest stamp set. I didn’t originally intend for it to have a cat on the card front. But as I was laying the pieces out I added a stray cat from my worktop and thought it looked pretty good.

The main colors on this card are Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Daffodil Delight for the flowers, and Always Artichoke for the leaves. The cat seemed to be floating when I first positioned everything, so I added the thin strip of Cajun Craze cardstock to give the little guy a place to rest.

This is actually a fairly simple card to put together. The back two sun flowers are stamped directly on the Whisper White cardstock along with a few leaves. The top sunflower and the sentiment are fussy cut, which is a lot easier than it looks with our amazing Paper Snips. With the coordinating Leaf Punch and Cat Punch the rest of the cutting was a piece of cake!

Tip: Stamp some images directly on the card and then punch or fussy cut other images to give the card more dimension.

I hope you enjoyed my cards and are inspired to go create your own Halloween and Fall themed cards!

  9. Breina Burgin says:

I haven’t seen a Big Shot in person yet, so I’m a bit confused as to what you mean with the first card and the dots. Do you mean the little dots on the green leaves? Is it from the little holes that allow you to push the die cut cardstock out of the die?

    #stampitcontest

    • Julie DeGuia says:

Yes Breina, I was referring to the dots on the green leaves and it is from the holes on the dies. It works here but a lot of times it is an annoying side effect of how the dies are constructed! 🙂
