Pretty much any stamp set with leaves can be used for a fall card if you pick the right colors. I chose the leaf images from the Oh So Eclectic stamp set and used two colors for the first, more opaque image. I inked up the stamp with Crushed Curry and then sponged on some Pumpkin Pie to give a two-toned look. For the top, hatch-marked image I used Cajun Craze. To get this lined up nicely I used my trusty Stamp-a-ma-Jig which worked like a charm!

Next, I wanted to add a little bit of a crisp autumn sky in the background. To achieve this I mixed up a light wash of Pool Party and Tempting Turquoise and very gently brushed it around the leaf images, being careful not to touch the color from the leaves. I knew I was planning on adding a vellum layer so I wasn’t too picky with how this color wash went on. Finally I added some stamped dots from the same set in Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi.

I kept the colors for the branch and the bird the same as the colors I used on the background leaves. Since the stamped piece ended up being a little busy I didn’t want to introduce any more colors. I used a Blender Pen and color from the top of my ink pads for the branch and leaves, and a damp Aqua Painter with the same colors for the bird.

I probably would have used a sewing machine to stitch the vellum down around the edges but my machine needs a trip to the repair shop. So I used the Whisper White 1/8″ Sheer Ribbon to add a border and this is where I hid my adhesive. I also added some under the stitched circle.

Tip – Use Snail adhesive to adhere the stitched circle to the vellum. (I used Multi Purpose Glue and it ended up warping the vellum a bit.)

I hope you enjoyed my card and are inspired to grab a leaf image (pick a set, any set) and a selection of pretty fall colors, and do some stamping!

Congratulations to Donna Biagioni for winning the A Little Wild Stamp Set from the July Stamp It Blog Hop!

  35. Lucy Schmidt says:

You had me when I saw the vellum, but each and every part could stand on its own. The design and colors are yummy & so cohesive. The bird and leaves are so versatile and I could justify buying them if I didn’t have others to stand in their place (darn!). Nicely done!

    • Julie DeGuia says:

Thank you so much for your sweet comment Lucy! Best Birds is one of my favorite sets… borrowed it from a friend first and then had to get it for myself! Good luck in the giveaway!
