More Mother’s Day Card Inspiration for GDP085

For this Global Design Project challenge we were to pick our three favorite retiring In-Colors and make a card. I don’t happen to have all of the 2015-2017 In-Colors so I made a few substitutions. I used Calypso Coral in place of Watermelon Wonder and Crushed Curry in place of Delightful Dijon. My third color is Cucumber Crush, although I did sneak a little Mint Macaron in on the Designer Series Paper in the background.

Here is my card:

And here is the banner that inspired my card:

Global Design Project 085

Number of Years is one of my favorite sets in the current annual catalog and I’m so happy it will be carrying over to the new annual catalog coming out June 1st. I love that the leaves and flowers are stamped separately allowing easy stamping in multiple colors! To get a little more variety from the three colors in the background piece I stamped some images fully inked and others stamped off once. The results were still pretty vibrant so I added a panel of Velum Cardstock to provide some separation and help the letters stand out. For the sentiment I adhered three layers of each letter together to simulate chipboard. This let them pop off the card without needing to use Stampin’ Dimensionals, which would have been tricky to position. The “I LOVE YOU” words are from Thoughtful Banners.

When I first started stamping the background I used a piece of 4″ x 5.25″ Whisper White Cardstock. However the end result was a little off-center so I stamped the leaves on a second piece of 4″ x 5.25″ cardstock because I have a need for things to be centered. I did end up trimming the first one down, but I couldn’t let the other background just go to waste. So I pulled out a variety of bright colors and stamped the flowers. I was thinking of doing the same design with a different color for the word MOM, but the butterflies were calling to me. And I really love the result!

Because there are lots of colors in the background I kept the coloring of the two butterflies nice and simple. On the larger one I used Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo, and for the smaller one I used Soft Sky and Tempting Turquoise. The body and antenna of each are stamped in Rich Razzleberry, along with the banner and sentiment.

The banner is also from the Number of Years set, and the sentiment is from Oh So Succulent. The banner is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. This makes room for the butterfly wings to lift off the card slightly as I only added glue to the body of each.

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and I hope this gives you some inspiration for your own cards. I have one more Mother’s Day card here if you would like another example. Really any stamp set with flowers would make a great card for mom, as long as you have the right sentiment to pair with it. Here are some sets that have a mom-related sentiment… and they are all retiring, so get them now and be prepared for next year! All retiring stamp sets are available until May 22nd and then after that it is while supplies last through May 31st.
