Jar of Love for GDP040

I have another card highlighting the set Jar of Love by Stampin’ Up! for the challenge this week at Global Design Project. I just love this set and it works great with or without the coordinating Everyday Jars Framelits… although I have the dies so I’m having fun using them together! Here is my card.

This week the challenge was to CASE a card by Shawn de Oliveira and it is a beautiful watercolor card. Here is the inspiration piece.

GDP040: Case the Designer Shawn de Oliveira

At the Global Design Project they define CASE as “Copy and Selectively Edit” a card so while I did not go with an outline stamp where I had to watercolor an image, I still wanted to include watercoloring on my card. I made a wash for the background to ground the scene and have a place to set down my vase of flowers. I used Soft Suede for the bottom and Soft Sky for the top. Then I stamped the leaves in the back of the vase with Pear Pizzazz, stamping off once to give a softer effect. I looked up the blog post for Shawn’s card and he said when he painted the blue in the background it caused the leaves to bleed and while it wasn’t his intent he really liked the result. So I went back in with some water on all the stamped leaves and tried to blur them a bit.

For the mason jar I stamped the outline and sentiment in VersaMark ink on Island Indigo cardstock and then heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Since I was making a darker mason jar it would be harder to see inside the jar so I continued with the VersaMark ink and stamped the water and stems with it as well. The watercolor panel is adhered to one of the beautiful patterns from the new Blooms and Bliss Designer Series Paper. Then I separated out one strand from the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon and wrapped it around this panel before mounting it on an Island Indigo card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Tip: Position your flowers and any other die cuts on your leaves before adhering them to the paper. When you are satisfied with the arrangement take a picture with your phone. Then you can remove the dies and you will have a reference when putting it all together with your adhesive.

I hope you liked my card and don’t forget to head over to the Global Design Project blog to see the amazing inspiration from the design team as well as the other entries for the challenge. Thanks for stopping by!
