Global Design Project 041: A Sweet Color Challenge

So the only thing I didn’t have trouble with on this challenge was deciding which colors to use! I love the color combination of Sweet Sugarplum, Whisper White and Night of Navy – very elegant. I struggled with everything else and made three card fronts before settling on this one. Does anyone else run into these kind of problems? LOL! I actually liked my first attempt but would have re-stamped it if I were going to use it for a finished piece… and it was a ginormous CASE of someones else’s card and when possible I like to come up with my own designs. So here is my final attempt… and if I actually had Night of Navy ink then I might have thrown a blue leaf or two on there as well. This would have looked very plain with a flat piece of cardstock for the background so I ran a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock through the Big Shot with the new Petal Burst Textured Embossing Folder. The reason I used the Shimmery White Cardstock is because it is a little thicker and the paper doesn’t break down at all (and put extra creases on the leaves) like the Whisper White Cardstock. The petals are stamped in Sweet Surgarplum, and since Bunch of Blossoms uses the 2-step stamping process I was able to achieve the lighter and darker colors with just the one ink pad. For the center of the flowers I stamped off once for the first stamp and then stamped fully inked for the second stamp. I also used the Shimmery White Cardstock for the petals and I think the extra shine that comes through is really nice. The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink using the new Labeler Alphabet set, which will be my go-to set from now on when I need a specific sentiment to fit in a specific place. My other option was to use the Crazy for You set and emboss “Happy Birthday Sunshine” in white on Night of Navy cardstock but that set is on loan at the moment… which is perfectly fine because when I loan we trade and I get to play with a “new to me” set!

TIP: When cutting down Whisper White card fronts keep all those extra little strips of paper (around one inch or so) to use for Labeler Alphabet words. I keep mine in a wood block case and can pull out a piece when the need arises!

I hope you liked my card today and be sure to check out the fabulous inspiration from the design team as well as the other entries at the Global Design Challenge Blog.

  1. Wonderful card Julie! The embossing is a wonderful background for those gorgeous flowers. Great tip about using the Shimmery White card with this folder too. Thanks. xx
